Here's what the papers have on the OVC today:
The Anniston (Ala.) Star (sorry, subscribers only) says Jacksonville State coach Jack Crowe believes taking it a little easy one day out of the week may be what cost them a victory at UT-Martin two games ago. So this week, the staff is squeezing work for the team into every minute they can find. With Murray State visiting Thursday night, there are fewer of those minutes to be had.
In his column today, The Birmingham (Ala.) News' Mike Perrin examines the state of Samford's football program. School officials are planning an upgrade to football facilities soon, he said. There's mention made of the academic prowess of Bulldog athletes, and then something I hadn't noticed anywhere else - a total of eight bulldogs are out with injuries, four of them stemming from Saturday's loss at Southeast Missouri State. Among them is wideout Joe Jones, whose broken leg has ended his season.
The Murray Ledger & Times says Murray State players took their overtime loss to Tennessee Tech last week pretty hard. "(The losses) are certainly discouraging. But you've just got to go play the next one. You can't dwell on the past. The only thing you can do with the past is learn from it,” coach Matt Griffin told the paper.
The Southeast Missourian says SEMO coach Tony Samuel is focusing on some key mistakes his Redhawks made in the second against Samford. To hear him talk you almost wouldn't know SEMO won the game. You also wouldn't suspect that, at 3-1, the Redhawks are in the midst of their best four-game start since moving to Division I in 1991.
