Playing catch

Three OVC players made Sports Network columnist Matt Dougherty's pre-season list of I-AA's top receivers. Chief of among them was EKU's Patrick Bugg, who Matt said is the top returning tight end in the division. On the WR list are UT-Martin's Taurean Stephens at#14 and Tennessee Tech's Larry Shipp at #17.

It's amazing the Voss from EIU isn't on that list. His numbers were down last year, but, is there a bigger play guy in the OVC?

I hoping that Voss has a big season and can use the last game as a motivator. As fl connection said, he could have had a huge day (but frankly had a terrible game).

Based on what I read about the new transfer from Minnesota, he should have a major impact for us this year.

Another player that I am expecting to have a big season at tight end is Parsill. Injuries have slowed him down in the past.

Has anyone heard about how any of the other EIU receivers looked in the spring? One person that stood out before his injury last year was Jermaine Mobley. Is he back to 100%? We should be very deep at receivers this year.

More questions for informed EIU fans... If you read the list of top Div1AA receivers, there are quite a few that play for EIU opponents (Indiana State, ISU and the OVC schools mentioned). Mad me wonder about our defensive backfield.

Does anyone know if Tristan Burge has recovered or will be 100% by the beginning of the season? Will Adrian Arrington, the prop 48 recruit we signed last year out of Bloomington that had to sit out a year, be playing this fall? I heard that he was a top player.

We will see if Bugg lives up to to his pre season accolades. However, I do think you will continue to see him make big plays for EKU. The good news is EKU has some muscle at RB (and the OVC QB) to go along with our passing game, now if we can just hit on all cylinders.

The only EIU board I ever came across was the one at the OVC Sports EZboard ( >http://p218.ezboard.com/bovcsports ). It's been eleven months since any EIU fans posted, though. The only team actually still uses that place is Morehead.

Sorry if I am talking too much on eiu. I realize that this is an OVC board but there just is no place to find out information on EIU football. I also like learning about the other OVC teams without all the grade school trash talking some other sites have. Speaking of which, EKU looks as though they will be tough next year. I took the family down for the EIU - EKU game a couple of years ago. We had a good mini-vacation but the game was horrible. I try to go to an away game each year (last year was SEMO) but still need to make it to Alabama.

Concerning the eiu defensive backfield, we did recruit some defensive backs. We will have some back from injury (Brown and Burge, for example). And, I think that if the juco linebacker is good enough, they could move Seymour to safety. But, I would also like to see Arington (safety) be on the team. He was a big time player in central illinois his senior year in high school & was recruited by the Univ of Illinois.

I for one enjoy the EIU talk, where else are we other school fans going to hear it? Keep it coming.

golden eagle - If I can convince my family to take a weekend vacation somewhere which includes an EIU football game, it looks like it will be to Tenn Tech. Never been there. Do you have ideas of any other activities to do in the area that I could bribe them with to make the trip seem like we are not only going to see EIU football? At SEMO, we spent the day at Trail of Tears State Park which was actually very good.

Re: Astroturf - We've applied to the state for funding and all that jazz, if all goes according to plan we will be replacing it with field turf in Spring 2007.

Re: Non-FB activities - Well, the weather around here in November is not particularly well-suited to outdoors stuff. It's not so much the temps, but it's rainy and windy a lot.

I could tell you about some stuff you could do, but I'm lazy and a professional has already done it for me: http://www.uppercumberland.org/index.htm

Well, that site isn't actually all that helpful upon further review. I'll try to find a better one.

Oh, and in case any of you EIU (and other schools) people haven't seen it, I found the EIU Unofficial Hall of Fame hilarious: http://eiuhalloffame.tripod.com/
