UTC to OVC?

It's been talked about, speculated on, and wished for (by some) for years. Now, it's on the record: the Ohio Valley Conference has asked UT-Chattanooga to leave the Southern Conference and join the OVC. UTC response for now: "We'll think about it."

Here's a link to today's story in the Chattanooga Times-Free Press. Discuss.

I think this move would be a plus for the OVC and for UTC. The UTC football program is on the rise, and that can only help the OVC.

I looked over their website and was impressed by the quality of almost all of their teams, not just football.

I would like to see the OVC go to two divisions. The travel in the OVC is actually not bad compared to other conferences and UTC would fit in that regard.

We couldn't turn down Peay, they're a charter member.

And wahoo to UTC.

UTC would be the first quality addition to the ovc since akron and Youngstown state back in the eighties. For the most part tsu, eiu, semo, and ut-martin have been cyphers on the conference as a whole. None have come close to making up for the losses of western kentucky, mtsu, or even akron and ysu after their short stay. The Mocs improve the ovc in every way you look at it.

So, you are saying EIU's 3 conference titles in the past 5 years makes EIU irrelevant to the OVC? Ridiculous! EIU should be complaining about the lack of depth along with EKU and JSU.

To say EIU has been a negative for the OVC doesn't make sense. Maybe, the OVC is down from 25 years ago. I don't know. But, if so, it isn't EIU's fault. They have won or been near the top in the all-sports trophy every year. They have dominated in some sports and probably have had the best football results for their time in the OVC than any other team.

Yeah, you'd have to be pretty crazy to blame anything on EIU, they've been a positive addition to the conference. But then again, it's easy to make such claims when you can be anonymous. ;)

So JSU & Samford have not been quality additions, anonymous? What more do they have to do to earn your respect? From all appearances it looks like the two Alabama schools fit right in for football in the OVC.
