The Friday papers

JaxSinfonian's away from his computer for the day, so I'm posting his usual roundup of OVC news.

The (Clarksville, Tenn.) Leaf Chronicle gets things started with a profile of Austin Peay junior QB Mark Cunningham, who made the first start of his career last Saturday in the Govs' 38-13 loss to Southeast Missouri.

The Richmond Register has a couple of stories, including a feature on true freshman linebacker Jordan Dalyrmple, whose late uncle, Brooks, once played football for the Colonels. Topping the list of things Jordan wishes he could have talked to his uncle about before he died? The rivalry with Western Kentucky.

There's also a piece about Richmond product Ronnie Letcher, now a freshman tailback for the Hilltoppers. He's excited about playing against his hometown Colonels.

The Lexington Herald-Leader also prominently features the Battle of the Bluegrass. At the risk of pointing out the obvious, they explain that for EKU, coming close to winning just doesn't cut it.

Louisville's Courier-Journal has an interesting piece on Hilltopper QB Justin Haddix. It seems that, coming out of high school, Mr. Haddix had a scholarship offer from EKU rescinded, and he's holding a bit of a grudge. The senior signal-caller is hoping to go 4-0 against the school that jilted him.

The Tennessean has an entertaining story on Tennessee State's massive offensive line, which, at an average of 327 lbs., is bigger than that of the NFL's Tennessee Titans. Right guard Eugene Banks leads the line to the dinner table at a whopping 370 lbs.

Nashville's City Paper also features a story on TSU. Correspondent Nate Rau says that the young and struggling Tigers couldn't ask for a better opponent for their home opener than equally young and struggling Murray State. Whether that will translate into a TSU victory, of course, remains to be seen.
